SHANGHAI (AP) — Qiu Bo was the top qualifier in the semifinals of men’s 10-meter diving at the world championships, putting China in position to win another gold medal.

Qiu totaled 579.55 points in the six-dive round Saturday, with Sascha Klein of Germany second at 502.85. Victor Minibaev of Russia was third with 493.55.

American David Boudia was fourth at 486.30, and China’s Zhou Luxin was fifth. Defending champion Tom Daley of Britain was sixth.

The top 12 advanced to Sunday’s final.

The men’s platform title has been elusive for the powerhouse Chinese. They lost the event both at the Beijing Olympics and the world meet two years ago in Rome.

The Chinese have won all eight diving events so far.
