A Battle Ground man died Saturday while fishing along the Columbia River in Woodland.
The 59-year-old was alone at Lions Day Park when “he fell in somehow,” Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Deputy Tory Shelton said.
A passerby found his body on the shore and attempted to revive the man, Shelton said. The sheriff’s office and Woodland police responded to the scene just before 1 p.m. A fishing pole was floating in the water near the man, whose car was parked nearby, Shelton said.
There were no witnesses, he said.
The county coroner’s office will determine the cause of death, and authorities will release the man’s name after his family has been notified, he said.
