Letter: Stalling by GOP gets us further behind

I am appalled at the utter lack of common sense being displayed by the Republican Party’s stonewalling of revenue increases. I hear the message, that taxes will stifle job creation, but that continues the same mentality that swelled the national debt; that all this will fix itself in the future. This smacks of the “two in the bush” side of the “bird in hand” equation. Not taking the steps to increase revenue shows an incomplete resolve to make required, tangible changes.

As for job creation, seeing fiscally responsible action by Congress would go a long way to restoring business confidence — even with tax increases in place, because then the uncertainty would be behind us. I realize that I will be affected by federal cost-cutting and tax changes. I am OK with that. I am not OK with passing even a larger fiscal problem to my grandchildren.
