STEVENSON, Wash. (AP) -- A Skamania County sheriff's officer has identified a 30-year-old man from Portland, Ore., who was killed at a popular rock climbing spot in southwestern Washington.
Undersheriff Dave Cox said Monday the climber was Nathan Turner. Cox says Turner's sister advises that the young man was a firefighter for Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue.
The sheriff's office says Turner fell more than 100 feet late Sunday afternoon from Beacon Rock. He and his climbing partner, Michael Aubry of Portland, were rappelling down the south route at the time.
