A Camas ambulance was damaged early Friday morning in a rock-throwing incident.

Camas Fire Chief Nick Swinhart said paramedics were transporting a patient to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center at 4 a.m. As they approached Interstate 205 and Highway 14, unknown people started throwing rocks at the ambulance from an overpass.

The rocks damaged the lightbar and the side of the ambulance, Swinhart said in an email.

The crew and patient were not injured, but the ambulance will need to be repaired.

“Incidents like this risk the lives of our personnel, our patients and other drivers on the road,” Swinhart said in the email. “We are lucky no one was killed.”

The incident was referred to the Washington State Patrol.
