PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Rep. David Wu’s decision to resign from Congress will lead to a special election to fill the vacancy left by the seven-term Democrat from northwest Oregon.
A spokeswoman for Gov. John Kitzhaber said Tuesday the governor is working on setting a date.
There is no provision for appointing a replacement for Wu in the interim.
Depending on when Kitzhaber schedules the special election, candidates could be chosen in a special primary election or by political parties according to their own internal rules.
Wu was accused in a published report of an aggressive sexual encounter with the teenage daughter of a friend last year.
