NEW ORLEANS (AP) — LSU officials say they are aware of Tennessee’s interest in hiring away Athletic Director Joe Alleva and are preparing to deal with the matter.

Herb Vincent, LSU’s Associate Vice Chancellor and Senior Associate Athletic Director, says Chancellor Michael Martin has cut short a trip to New Mexico and had taken a flight to Baton Rouge on Tuesday night.

Alleva has been LSU’s athletic director since April 2008, when he left the same job at Duke.

Tennessee interim vice chancellor and athletics director Joan Cronan is declining to discuss Alleva’s candidacy and says that the university’s search “is still in progress.”

The next Tennessee athletic director will replace Mike Hamilton, who announced June 7 that was stepping down. Hamilton was under pressure after a 26-month NCAA investigation and multiple coaching turnovers.
