Padres recall Neshek, Martinez

SAN DIEGO (AP) — The San Diego Padres recalled right-hander Pat Neshek and catcher Luis Martinez from Triple-A Tucson on Tuesday, optioned catcher Kyle Phillips to the same club and placed right-hander Ernesto Frieri on paternity leave.

Neshek is making his third stint with San Diego this season. He was previously optioned to Tucson on July 9. In 23 appearances for San Diego this season, he is 1-1 with a 3.52 ERA.

Martinez is up for his second stint with the Padres this year. The rookie was optioned to Tucson on July 16 after being recalled on July 8. He has appeared in one game for San Diego, appearing a pinch-hitter against San Francisco and remaining in the game as catcher.

Frieri is 1-2 with a 3.30 ERA in 43 relief appearances this season.
