This past week, a disturbing incident took place that had the potential to turn out much worse than it did.
On Friday at approximately 4 a.m., a Camas Fire Department ambulance carrying two paramedics and a patient was making a non-emergency transport to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center in Vancouver when the vehicle was suddenly hit by rocks believed to be thrown from individuals standing on or near an overpass at I-205 and Highway 14.
Thankfully, it was only the ambulance that was damaged. And it was really only by luck that no people were injured or killed as a result of this incredibly irresponsible and cruel act.
The incident was reported to the Washington State Patrol and is currently being investigated.
For most of us, it is difficult to understand what the people who chose to commit this crime were thinking. But what is clear is that a person who would put the lives of others in danger in such a reckless way is likely to attempt to do so again. And next time, the victims might not be so lucky.
