GOODWOOD, England (AP) — Frankel has extended his unbeaten record to 8-0 with a convincing five-length victory over Canford Cliffs in the Sussex Stakes at Goodwood.

With a burst of speed in the final two furlongs, Frankel easily dismissed the challenge of Canford Cliffs in one of the most anticipated matchups in British racing in years.

The 3-year-old colt is named for Hall of Fame trainer Bobby Frankel, who died in 2009.

Frankel, trained by Henry Cecil and ridden by Tom Queally, was sent off as the 8-13 favorite in the field of four and led from the start of the one-mile race.

The 4-year-old Canford Cliffs had won five in a row coming into the race, including a victory over champion Goldikova in the Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot last month.
