NEW YORK (AP) — Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis says “I hope we get” free agent Nnamdi Asomugha to join him in New York’s secondary as the team makes a push for the Oakland Raiders star.

Revis says Wednesday on a conference call that Asomugha is the “best cornerback in the league,” and adds if he signs with the Jets “our pass defense is going to be sky high.”

Asomugha is considered the top player available among this year’s free agents, and coach Rex Ryan would love to add another shutdown cornerback next to Revis in his already impressive defense. The Jets, who reached an agreement with wide receiver Santonio Holmes early Wednesday, are in serious negotiations with Asomugha.

Revis also says he’d be open to Randy Moss, whom he has criticized, joining the team.
