PORT ANGELES, Wash. (AP) — Former Clallam County Treasurer’s Office cashier Catherine Betts was convicted Wednesday in Port Angeles of stealing more than $617,000.

The 47-year-old Shelton woman who uses a wheelchair was handcuffed and taken to jail after the jury returned the guilty verdict on theft, money laundering and fraudulent tax return charges.

She’ll face a prison term of two or three years when she is sentenced Aug. 24 in Clallam County Superior Court.

The Peninsula Daily News reports the exact amount of money Betts took between 2003 and 2009 could not be determined.
