Soni wins women’s 200 breaststroke at worlds

SHANGHAI (AP) — American Rebecca Soni has won gold in the women’s 200-meter breaststroke at the world swimming championships.

Soni, who led from start to finish, had a time of 2 minutes, 21.47 seconds on Friday. She also won Tuesday’s 100-meter breaststroke.

Yuliya Efimova of Russia won the silver in 2:22.22, and Canada’s Martha McCabe finished third in 2:24.81 to take bronze.

Annamay Pierse of Canada, the defending champion and world record holder from Rome in 2009, finished eighth.
