COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier remains hopeful about his defending Southeastern Conference divisional winners, no matter how many distractions he must handle.
The latest came Tuesday when quarterbacks coach G.A. Mangus was arrested and charged with nuisance conduct after police caught him urinating on a downtown Greenville street. Spurrier suspended Mangus from all coaching activities.
This follows the saga of starting quarterback Stephen Garcia, who has been suspended from the team since April. Garcia attended workouts, but Spurrier said a final decision about his status won’t come until Monday.
Garcia has been suspended five times since arriving on campus in January 2007. Spurrier said Thursday that Garcia has done the right things to return.
Spurrier said Mangus should coach again for the Gamecocks this year.
