JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD, Wash. (AP) — Joint Base Lewis-McChord is holding a flag ceremony Monday to signify the movement of the headquarters of the 16th Combat Aviation Brigade from Fort Wainwright, Alaska.

About 200 soldiers and 10 helicopters are moving from Alaska. Other parts of the brigade will come from Fort Hood, Texas, and units already at Lewis-McChord.

The new aviation brigade will support the training and operations of I (First) Corps.

The changes will add about 1,400 soldiers and 44 helicopters over the next three years at Lewis-McChord. Spokeswoman Catherine Caruso says the base population will grow to about 45,000, the most since the Vietnam War.
