McCarthy cautious going into Packers 1st practice

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Green Bay coach Mike McCarthy knows he has a lot of work to do before the Packers’ Sept. 8 regular season opener against New Orleans, and he’ll have less time to do it during a compressed training camp schedule.

That doesn’t mean McCarthy is going to push his players too hard, especially early on.

Going into the Super Bowl champions’ first training camp practice Saturday night, McCarthy says he’ll be cautious about injuries, given the lack of an organized offseason workout program during the lockout.

McCarthy says a handful of players coming off season-ending injuries will be brought along slowly and might not practice right away, including tight end Jermichael Finley, defensive end Mike Neal and safety Morgan Burnett.
