Developer Elie Kassab’s business is no different than any other business or homeowner responsibility to pay property taxes. When one invests private funds to develop or build a new project or business it is for one basic reason — profit. Kassab’s purchase of the Burgerville property for $750,000 provided him with the block to build his proposed apartment complex. With our city of Vancouver in dire need of tax dollars and the continuing low economy, an exemption of taxes or tax break over 12 years for Kassab in the amount of $1.1 million would not be appropriate. As a businessman he must pay his fair share of taxes like everyone else. It is his project not the city’s. Wake up, city council; greed is rampant.
