WENATCHEE, Wash. (AP) — The Chelan County sheriff’s office put a helicopter in the air and more than a dozen people on the ground Thursday to search for a man overdue on a snowshoe hike near Stevens Pass in Washington’s North Cascades.

Lt. Maria Agnew says they hope to find Ezra Thompson or at least narrow the search.

The 21-year-old from Paynesville, Minn., left the Nason Creek trailhead on May 25 and was expected Tuesday at Holden Village, a church camp where he had volunteered to clear trails.

Agnew says searchers Wednesday found no tracks, but that’s not surprising because rain has been falling this week. She says there’s a lot of snow in the area, and a high avalanche danger as temperatures warm.
