CHICAGO (AP) — Kelley O’Hara is replacing the injured Lindsay Tarpley on the U.S. roster for the Women’s World Cup in Germany.

O’Hara has made only five appearances for the U.S., but U.S. coach Pia Sundhage said Wednesday the young midfielder is good in the air, “can take people on and hit good crosses.” O’Hara won the 2009 Hermann Trophy as the nation’s top collegiate player, scoring 26 goals and adding 13 assists in her senior season at Stanford.

O’Hara scored 24 goals at the Under-20 level, and was part of the U.S. team that finished fourth at the 2006 U-20 Women’s World Cup.

The Women’s World Cup will be played June 26-July 17 in nine cities throughout Germany. The Americans open the tournament June 28 in Dresden against North Korea.
