KENT, Wash. (AP) — Relatives of a man charged with assault yelled at a judge when she refused to allow the man to attend the funeral of his teenage son. The 16-year-old was fatally shot at a backyard barbecue in Auburn, Wash.

Gabriel Wilson is the father of shooting victim Adrian Wilson. The older man is accused of firing shots during the melee on May 22. He pleaded not guilty Thursday to assault and unlawful possession of a firearm and is held on $750,000 bail. Adrian Wilson’s funeral was Thursday afternoon.

The judge agreed with a prosecutor who said Wilson might become violent again if he was allowed to attend the funeral.

KING-TV says sheriff’s deputies ordered family members out of the court gallery in Kent, Wash.

Another 16-year-old, James Anthony Mills, is charged as an adult with second-degree murder. He’s held on $1 million bail, with arraignment set for Monday.
