PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Police investigating the slaying of a beauty salon owner in the Portland suburb of Gladstone have arrested a 54-year-old woman who lives in the same town.

Milwaukie Officer Ulli Neitch said Friday that Susan Campbell has been arrested for investigation of murder in the death of Deborah Lee Higbee Benton. Neitch is the spokeswoman for the Clackamas County Major Crimes Team. She says the two women were acquainted but declined to offer more details.

The Oregonian says Higbee Benton was found fatally shot on the night of May 28 in her salon.

Police have released little, not even confirming the case as a homicide until Thursday.

The newspaper says Gladstone police Sgt. Lynne Benton married Higbee Benton last October. Because of that relationship, Gladstone police turned the death investigation over to the county major crimes unit and Benton went on leave.
