Scott Bieber, technical services commander for the Vancouver Police Department and an officer with the force for more than 20 years, is the recipient of the 2011 Clark College Outstanding Alumni Award.

Bieber will be honored June 9 during the college’s annual Alumni-Student Dinner, presented by the Clark College Alumni Association with support from Riverview Community Bank.

The dinner begins at 6 p.m. in the Gaiser Student Center on Clark’s main campus, 1933 Fort Vancouver Way.

The program will feature alumni recognition, including the presentation of the association’s annual scholarship award, and entertainment.

Bieber joins a distinguished list of alumni winners, such as former Washington state Sen. Al Bauer, environmentalist Denis Hayes and former U.S. Congressman Don Bonker.

Communication plays an important role in Bieber’s work. He credits Clark’s English and speech classes with giving him tools he uses daily. For six years, he served on the board of Clark’s Penguin Athletic Club.

“We applaud Scott’s service to the community and we are proud to honor him with this award,” said Clark College President Bob Knight in a press release.

Following his studies at Clark, where he ran for the cross-country team, Bieber earned a bachelor’s degree in speech communication and a master’s degree in public administration, both from Portland State University.

He graduated from the FBI National Academy in 2000 and attended the Director’s Leadership Institute at the London Business School in July 2005.

Bieber serves as vice chairman of the iQ Credit Union board of directors. He also has served with the Camas-Washougal Rotary Club, Clark County Early Learning Foundation Advisory Committee and Clark County YMCA.

Event cost for alumni and guests is $25 per person.
