Hight leads Funny Car qualifying at SuperNationals

ENGLISHTOWN, N.J. (AP) — Robert Hight topped Funny Car qualifying Friday night in the NHRA SuperNationals at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park.

Hight, a three-time winner this season, had a 4.090-second pass at 310.34 mph in his Ford Mustang.

Del Worsham (Top Fuel), Shane Gray (Pro Stock) and Jerry Savoie (Pro Stock Motorcycle) also led their divisions in the eighth of 22 events in the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series.

Worsham drove his Top Fuel dragster to a 3.785-second run at 322.34 in the final session of the day.

In Pro Stock, Gray raced to the provisional top spot in his Pontiac GXP just one race after his first win of the season. He had a pass of 6.510 at 212.46. Savoie finished in 6.836 at 192.74 on a Suzuki.
