KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — According to his growing legend, high school star Bubba Starling hits 500-foot home runs and throws a football 55 yards from his knees.

Baseball America says the multisport star from the Kansas City suburb of Gardner, Kan., is the best high school athlete in next week’s baseball draft. He’s no secret to the Kansas City Royals. They’ve been courting the 6-foot-5, 200-pound outfielder since he was 14, bringing him to games and letting him hit in their indoor facility.

If Starling is still on the board when the Royals pick fifth Monday night in the first round, they may snap him right up.

But there’s a catch. He was also a great high school quarterback who rushed for 2,471 yards and 31 touchdowns last year and he’s signed a letter of intent with Nebraska.
