PHOENIX (AP) — The Washington Nationals have placed left-hander Doug Slaten on the 15-day disabled list with a sore elbow and recalled right-hander Craig Stammen from Triple-A Syracuse.
Slaten has allowed 15 of the 30 inherited baserunners he’s faced this season to score and manager Jim Riggleman questioned his health after he allowed a three-run triple to Stephen Drew in Washington’s 4-0 loss to Arizona Friday night.
Stammen had been in the rotation with Syracuse, but will join the Nationals as a reliever despite starter Yunesky Maya’s struggles. Stammen was a long reliever with Washington last season.
