The Puyehue volcano in Chile has been Exhibit A of nature’s fury and beauty.

About 3,500 people have been evacuated from the region 500 miles south of Santiago and skies as far as Argentina have been blackened since Saturday.

The volcano’s ash cloud, however, has offered a dazzling display of lightning at night.
