Good Samaritan assaulted in Wenatchee dies

WENATCHEE, Wash. (AP) — A man who was knocked unconscious while trying to help the driver of a disabled van in Wenatchee has died of his injury.

The Wenatchee World reports 53-year-old Jose Guadalupe Garcia of East Wenatchee died Friday at a hospital.

Police say he was punched in the face Thursday night , fell to the ground, and hit his head.

Police say the driver of the disabled van also assaulted an officer who arrived at the scene.

The motive for the assaults is unknown.

The suspect, 49-year-old Juan Gonzalez of Wenatchee, was jailed for investigation of assault, resisting arrest and attempting to disarm an officer. With the death he could be facing more-serious charges.
