LOS ANGELES (AP) — Ronnie Shaeffer singled down the right-field line with no outs in ninth inning to give UC Irvine a 4-3 comeback victory over UCLA on Sunday night in the NCAA Los Angeles Regional.

The Anteaters (42-16) advanced to their first Super Regional since 2008. They will travel to play No. 1 national seed Virginia (52-9).

With Irvine down 3-2, pinch-hitter Jonathan Hurst drew a leadoff walk in the ninth, and pinch-runner Scott Gottschling scored on Jordan Leyland’s double down the left-field line.

Leyland scored the winning run two batters later on Shaeffer’s single. Shaeffer, selected the regional’s most outstanding player, had two hits and two RBIs.

UCLA’s Nick Vander Tuig (3-4) took the loss after entering with a man on in the ninth.

The Bruins, who beat San Francisco 4-1 earlier in the day, finished the season at 35-23.
