NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Nate Woods pitched into the sixth and Belmont overcame a late scare to defeat Troy 5-2 on Sunday and advance to the championship round of the Nashville Regional.

Belmont (38-25) needed to beat Vanderbilt twice in order to win its first NCAA regional title.

Woods (7-5) gave up four hits and one run in five innings to win his fifth straight decision.

Trailing by a run, Troy (43-19) threatened in the eighth when the Trojans loaded the bases with two outs. But Garrett Fanchier got Tyler Hannah to fly out to deep left field. Troy left 12 runners on base.

The Bruins chased Troy starter Ryan Sorce (5-5) in the second after he allowed an RBI single to Judah Akers.
