Gregoire: No decision yet on re-election campaign

SEATTLE (AP) — Gov. Chris Gregoire says she still hasn’t made a decision about whether to run for re-election next year.

Gregoire said Monday she will talk it over with her family before making that decision but is currently in the middle of signing bills from the Legislature’s special session.

Democratic Party activists have said they expect Gregoire will decline to run for a third term in 2012. Political observers are closely watching Democratic U.S. Rep. Jay Inslee and Republican Attorney General Rob McKenna as potential leading candidates for governor.

Former state Rep. Laura Ruderman has already declared her candidacy for Inslee’s 1st District seat, although she qualified her announcement by saying she would not campaign if Inslee decides to keep his seat.
