CINCINNATI (AP) — The Reds made a move to freshen their bullpen on Monday, calling up right-hander Daryl Thompson from Triple-A Louisville before the opening game of a series against the Chicago Cubs.

The Reds optioned right-hander Chad Reineke to Louisville.

Thompson spent one day with Cincinnati earlier this season. He also made nine starts for Double-A Carolina and one for Triple-A Louisville. Manager Dusty Baker plans to use him out of the bullpen, which leads the National League in innings.

Reineke made one start and one relief appearance for the Reds, going 0-1 with a 6.75 ERA.
