CINCINNATI (AP) — The Cincinnati Reds made a move to freshen their bullpen on Monday, calling up right-hander Daryl Thompson from Triple-A Louisville before the opening game of a series against the Chicago Cubs.

The Reds optioned right-hander Chad Reineke to Louisville.

Thompson spent one day with Cincinnati earlier this season. He also made nine starts for Double-A Carolina and one for Louisville. Manager Dusty Baker plans to use him out of the bullpen, which leads the National League in innings.

Reineke made one start and one relief appearance for the Reds, going 0-1 with a 6.75 ERA.
