PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — A National Weather Service flood watch is in effect in some areas of Eastern Oregon at risk from possibly heavy rain forecast for the region.

The weather service said moderate to heavy rain is possible across northeast Oregon on Monday with a flood watch in the Grande Ronde River valley and Wallowa County that includes the cities of Cove, Elgin, La Grande, Enterprise and Joseph.

Forecasters said thunderstorms are also possible with localized heavy rainfall that could lead to sharp rises in area creeks and streams.

The weather service also expanded a flash flood watch in Idaho to include Harney and Malheur counties in southeastern Oregon.
