Letter: Don't rush to sign baseball
Tuesday, June 7, 2011
While I might support added taxes to help those in need, I think that instituting an admission tax to build a (private/public) baseball field is simply another example of corporate welfare.
It seems that backers of the idea have been working behind the scenes for the past six months to bring baseball to Vancouver, and want to hasten the imposition of added taxes on Clark County residents by saying, “Short Season LLC has until July to negotiate a deal with the county.” A June 3 story reported, “Fate of effort to bring baseball to county may rest with Boldt.”
It would appear that we’re supposed to sit quietly by and accept the one mandatory “public discussion” as our government in action.
At this point, “Who’s running the government?” is a much more important question than “Will Vancouver get baseball?”
I vote for the citizens of Clark County.
