The Fort Vancouver National Trust is seeking 300 volunteers to help with Independence Day at Fort Vancouver presented by Bank of America on Monday, July 4.

More than 250 volunteers helped at the 2010 event, which drew about 35,000 visitors.

Volunteers provide a variety of services from staffing the entrance gates to helping with youth activities to picking up trash. Potential volunteers can download the application at http://www.fortvan.org/pages/fourth-volunteer. On the application, volunteers may request certain jobs and shifts.

The Trust may not be able to accommodate all requests, but will make every effort to ensure that each volunteer helps with an enjoyable activity. Call the Trust at 360-992-1808 for information.

Volunteer shifts are just a few hours long in addition to a short training session prior to event day. Benefits include free admission; parking pass; volunteer T-shirt; reusable water bottle; and the satisfaction of helping at an iconic community event.

Cara Cantonwine, the Trust’s director of programs, said in a news release: “Volunteers are the most important part of making this event a success. Generous volunteers make it possible for our small staff to produce and manage this community event.

“They can enjoy the event as spectators and give a few hours as volunteers to make Independence Day a great event for the entire community.”
