SALEM, Ore. (AP) — The Oregon Legislature is preparing to vote on a plan to redraw the state’s legislative districts.

Both the state House and Senate are scheduled to vote on Friday morning. Some lawmakers have hailed the plan as a historic bipartisan agreement.

The compromise plan is based largely on the existing plan and changes district boundaries primarily in the high-growth areas of Bend, as well as Washington and Clackamas counties.

Republican leader Kevin Cameron of Salem says the plan is “neither fair nor balanced.” But the bill is likely to pass because the GOP is worried they’d fare even worse if the task fell to the Democratic secretary of state.

The state is required to draw new boundaries every 10 years to reflect shifting population.
