MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Minnesota Twins center fielder Denard Span is out of the lineup for a fifth time in the last six games because of whiplash from a home-plate collision last week.

Span spent more than three hours Thursday afternoon at the doctor’s office and was to meet with the team before the game against Texas to form a treatment and recovery plan. Trainer Rick McWane said Span’s dizziness has subsided. Span hurt his neck Friday, sat out two days, played Monday but felt lightheaded and returned to Minnesota for exams.

Also, Twins manager Ron Gardenhire says he wants Joe Mauer to remain on his minor-league rehab assignment as long as necessary until his legs are in shape to catch every day. Mauer is eligible to come off the disabled list next week.
