ROYAL OAK, Mich. (AP) -- The Detroit Zoo has a new, 900-pound resident.
The zoo announced Friday that the 19-year-old male polar bear named Aquila (ah-KEE-la) will make his home for the next two years at the Arctic Ring of Life exhibit. Aquila is on loan from the North Carolina Zoo in Asheboro, N.C., where his habitat is being renovated.
Aquila joins 11-year-old male Lee, 27-year-old female Barle (BEAR-la) and her daughter, 7-year-old female Talini at the zoo in the Detroit suburb of Royal Oak.
Other residents in the Arctic Ring of Life include seals and arctic foxes.
