SEATTLE (AP) — Charging stations are now available at the Qwest Field parking lot in Seattle for electric car owners.

One of the people plugging in Thursday at the debut of commercial chargers in Seattle was Heidi Bray of Olympia who needed a recharge for the drive back home.

The Seattle Times reports about 2,000 chargers will be installed in the Puget Sound area by the end of the year through the federally funded EV project. Half will be in homes and half will be in public places along the Interstate 5 corridor.

Blue signs with the letters “EV” will soon go up on the interstate.

Washington is one of six states participating in the $230 million EV Project to establish a network of stations for electric cars.
