NCAA begins hearing on Tennessee infractions case
Friday, June 10, 2011
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- The NCAA's infractions committee has opened its hearing into allegations against the football and men's basketball programs at Tennessee.
Former basketball coach Bruce Pearl was the first coach to enter the hearing room in a downtown Indianapolis hotel. Former football coach Lane Kiffin, now at Southern California, also was in town to speak in front of the committee.
The NCAA has charged both programs with committing recruiting violations and has accused both coaches with failing to promote an atmosphere of compliance within the programs.
In all, a 22-month investigation turned up a dozen rules violations.
Saturday's hearing is expected to last all day.
