Talking Points: Local football on tap
Saturday, June 11, 2011
What's the buzz from the world of sports? Here are some items that will have people talking:
Are you ready for some football?
With almost three months until the return of college and high school football — and with no guarantee there will be an NFL season — might we suggest the Clark County Vipers.
The most recent amateur football team to call our community home is 9-0 in the newly formed Pacific Football League. Which means the Vipers must be doing something right.
So if you don’t want to wait for football, check out the action today at Kiggins Bowl, where the Vipers go after win number 10 at 6 p.m.
It’s Grand Floral Parade day. Which is why the Portland Timbers have chosen to wear their Rose City Red jerseys at home for the first time today.
We think it’s good timing. And not only because the last time the Timbers played with the kind of spark they need was when they wore their red tops at Seattle.
The Timbers marketing arm has done a good job of capturing unique elements of the Portland market. And the red unis look good.
