PENDLETON, Ore. (AP) — At least two people have been killed in a small plane crash in a rugged mountain area of Eastern Oregon.

Lt. Col. Thomas Traver of the Civil Air Patrol said Monday the third person believed to be on board has not been found.

Umatilla County sheriff’s deputies said the plane was a Bellanca single engine aircraft. Emergency management officials said it crashed Sunday after taking off from Dallesport, Wash., bound for Wyoming.

The Civil Air Patrol found the wreckage near Ukiah, a small town about 50 miles south of Pendleton.

Sheriff’s deputies said the U.S. Forest Service was cutting a road into the area to help investigators get to the scene. Deputies were assisting Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board investigators. No other details were available.
