Talking Points: Who needs Hawaii when you live in Reno

Wanna go to a bowl game? On Christmas Eve? In Hawaii?

If you don’t mind sitting with maybe 10 other Nevada Wolf Pack fans, give Reno a call.

The Reno Gazette Journal reported on Thursday that Nevada had sold just 10 tickets over the phone to the Hawaii Bowl. Nevada is set to play Southern Mississippi.

Of course the school said it didn’t know the exact total of ticket sales since most are sold through the bowl website.

Just goes to show some of the silliness involved in scheduling holiday football games in far-flung locales … even those that are tropical.

Speaking of tropical, it appears Norm Chow finally has a head coaching gig.

Always rumored for a college football job, word came out Tuesday that Chow was headed home to coach Hawaii.

Chow may be best known for helping star quarterbacks Jim McMahon, Steve Young, Ty Detmer, Philip Rivers, Carson Palmer and Matt Leinart. Detmer, Palmer and Leinart won Heisman Trophies under his tutelage.

Aloha Coach Chow.
