OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — Oakland Athletics left-hander Brett Anderson will undergo six weeks of rehabilitation on his injured pitching elbow.

Anderson met with noted orthopedist Dr. James Andrews on Monday in Florida. Andrews recommended that Anderson receive a platelet rich plasma injection in his elbow and start rehabilitation instead of having surgery. Anderson will be re-evaluated again in three weeks.

Anderson was placed on the 15-day disabled list last week, the third DL stint of his career. He had allowed 14 earned runs in 10 1-3 innings over his last two starts, both losses. He is 3-6 with a 4.00 ERA on the season.

Anderson is one of four Oakland starters on the disabled list, contributing to the team’s 12 losses in 13 games.
