Talking Points: Discussing the NBA Finals

What’s the buzz from the world of sports? Here are some items that will have people talking:

1

There are three topics for discussion now that the NBA Finals have concluded:

No. 1 is how Dirk Nowitzki performed like Superman to lift the Mavericks to their first NBA championship.

No. 1-A is how LeBron James didn’t perform like Dirk Nowitzki and is once again ringless despite all the preseason hoopla of taking his talents from Cleveland to South Beach and joining the SuperFriends.

And No. 2 is the countdown until the NBA owners lock out the players and possibly cancel the 2011-12 season. LeBron may just have to wait a long while to find that elusive ring.

2

Of course one of the first to send out congratulations to the Mavericks was Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert.

About 15 minutes after the Mavericks beat the Miami Heat in Game 6, Gilbert sent a message on his Twitter page to Mavericks owner Mark Cuban.

“Congrats to Mark C.& entire Mavs org.,” Gilbert wrote. “Mavs NEVER stopped & now entire franchise gets rings. Old Lesson for all: There are NO SHORTCUTS. NONE.”

It’s June 13 and we have one last holdout of winter: The National Hockey League.

Tonight’s Game 6 in Boston between the need-to-win-one-more Vancouver Canucks and the we-haven’t-won-this-just-as-long-as-you-haven’t Bruins could be very compelling.

Anytime you’ve got both goalies sniping at each other, and the Bruins leading the aggregate scoring 14-6 (whatever that means), we almost hope for another 1-0 Canucks win.
