MOSCOW (AP) — Russian news agencies say Kremlin envoy Mikhail Margelov is in the Libyan capital to meet top officials of Moammar Gadhafi’s regime to seek a way to end the country’s civil war.
The ITAR-Tass news agency said Margelov met Thursday with Libyan Foreign Minister Abdul-Ati al-Obeidi. He also was to meet with Prime Minister Al-Baghdadi Al-Mahmoudi.
Last week, Margelov visited the Libyan rebel stronghold of Benghazi and said that Gadhafi has lost his legitimacy. However, Margelov also says NATO airstrikes are not a solution to Libya’s violent stalemate.
