DEN BOSCH, Netherlands (AP) — Third-seeded Yanina Wickmayer recovered from taking a ball to the face to beat Arantxa Parra Santonja 7-6 (4), 6-7 (4), 7-5 in the second round of the Unicef Open on Wednesday.

Wickmayer was leading 2-1 in the second set and attempting a backhand service return when a ball ricocheted off her racket’s frame and hit near her left eye. The Belgian was shaken and sat in her chair for several minutes, holding a bottle of water to her face before resuming the match.

Parra Santonja went on to take the second set before Wickmayer fought back to break the Spaniard twice in the third set.

Wickmayer said it took her a few games to recover from the mishap, “but by the third set I was fine.”
