SEATTLE (AP) -- The King County executive has ordered an inquest into an Auburn, Wash., police officer's fatal shooting of a 48-year-old man.
Auburn police say the officer fired May 7 after a man he stopped for a burned-out headlight climbed out of his car and threatened the officer with a knife.
Killed was Brian Scaman of Auburn.
King County Prosecutor Dan Satterberg recommended the inquest to County Executive Dow Constantine after Satterberg's office reviewed the Kent Police Department's investigation of the shooting.
The inquest is a fact-finding hearing conducted before a six-member jury.
