Letter: Democrats played role

The Columbian
Published: June 14, 2011, 5:00pm

David Miller’s June 7 letter, “GOP Party is failing the middle class,” is a litany of talking points that blames one political party for every problem from A to Z. One of his complaints was that Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Camas, voted to end Medicare as we know it. Miller should also have credited former U.S. Rep. Brian Baird, and Sens. Maria Cantwell and Patty Murray, D-Wash., for their votes to end Medicare as we know it. They voted to strip $500 billion from Medicare and transfer those funds into the black hole of a national health plan.

Medicare, as our seniors know it, is already morphing into a health plan that is not patient-oriented. It is rapidly becoming a government-oriented incomprehensible nightmare that stinks of corruption and cronyism.
