MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Minnesota Twins have reinstated shortstop Tsuyoshi Nishioka from the 60-day disabled list.

The move was made before Wednesday night’s game against the Chicago White Sox, though Nishioka was not in the lineup.

Nishioka broke his lower left leg April 8 while trying to turn a double play and has been out of action since.

The Japanese batting champion is in his first season in the majors. He was followed by a half-dozen cameras when he took the field during early batting practice to shake hands with his teammates. Nishioka had been on a minor league rehab assignment with Class A Fort Myers and Triple-A Rochester.

Nishioka takes first baseman Justin Morneau’s place on the active 25-man roster. Morneau was placed on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday with a strained left wrist.
